Two important considerations for me would be
a) rear iPod connection (I agree with Omni), and
b) amber display.
The latter is hard to find but pretty important to avoid that "dropped in aftermarket" look.

I have a Kenwood KIV-900BT. It is a great unit. I highly recommend Kenwood. I have had about 2 or 3 over the years. The last one I had lasted 7 years and had more than enough options on it. I am looking to upgrade to a headunit that has Android compatibility. I would like to control my android phone through bluetooth. That way I can throw the phone in my armrest and forget about it.

I used to be the state agent for Becker and would highly suggest them for an OEM look. Everything matches from the display to the buttons and style. Not cheap but very good quality and a slick unit to use. When changing inputs it lowers volume, changes input then brings volume up again.

Set an eBay alert for the model you're looking for. I get a hit every 3-4 weeks on the Blaupunkt Reno. I have a decent one, but I'm looking for a damn near perfect one. I missed out on the last opportunity, prices went ballistic on one that was essentially NIB.

I use the pioneer in my 951 its and older model. love it! also sonys line up is vey good they have come a long way there BT is very simple and easy from phone calls an streaming music via Pandora or any music on ur phone thru BT also there I pod integration is very good. I use to be only a pioneer fan till my dad (jbrown) has a Sony unit in his 930 and when I drove it loved how simple it was to use.. my experience with head units is from my family's shop they own a car audio shop for 20+ years.
I would do pioneer or sony leaning more towards sony also alpine is good to I just don't like the user interface, but those three brands will be your best bet!
