found the answer but to others reading this down the road wondering whats correct

this should be facing out
meaning you should be able to read part number when installed in spindal

Sometimes the Seal wears a slight groove in the Spindle, thousandth or two is not bad, deeper might bring on a leak/premature wear though. Seen JB Weld, Metal Magic ect used for the build-up, but a Weld build-up and machining will last another 25 years. Just saying they don't give those 'S' spindle's away, so take care of what you have.

I did sandblast and epoxy to make like new again and keep rust free.
