Have you taken apart your tube yet? Its a pain in the butt to do and there is a good possibility atleast 1 bearing carrier will be damaged beyond reusing. I also did not feel all that confident i could get it back together correctly.

Removal and replacement of the torque tube straight up sucks, and it was not a job i wanted to do twice.
Same here, we had the torque tube go bad in the 968, RIGHT AFTER (about a month after) we had a new clutch & lightweight flywheel installed, the TT showed no signs of failure while the car was appart (but the car did have a 150K on it) and that failure destroyed a very $$$ clutch & flywheel.
Your car, you can do it right and not have to worry, or you can do a presidential solution

So how does one pack the TT for shipping to Black Sea for a rebuild?

With some PVC fittings, a section of pool noodle, double wall cardboard box for the aluminum flange, more card board, duct tape, clear tape and stretch plastic wrap.

We can give you some instructions if you email us.

This is what one looks like when using our method of wrapping.

The PVC sections and pool noodle piece help protect the drive shaft that sticks out of the engine end.

Yes, UPS and FedEx will take it packed this way.

This system works really well since it makes the torque tube (TT) man portable and avoids the hassle and $$ of having it shipped by a container shipper. They will charge extra if the destination does not have a loading dock to unload the TT strapped to a pallet or in a large wooden crate.

The packing also helps protect the TT much better than even a wooden crate since we have received a 944 TT in a wooden crate packed by a well known parts supplier with the drive shaft poking out of it when it arrived.

Here are a few shots of the PVC/pool noodle configuration for protecting the drive shaft. The PVC pieces are a 3" to 2" reducer, a 8" piece of 3" PVC pipe and a section of pool noodle.
