Default Just a thought for MAF

I have a few mates who drive Holden VL Turbos.. (for the yanks who don't know what it is, They're basically gods gift to the Aussy drag world.. Cheap mods and quick times) All it is, is a Holden with a RB30ET on it standard.

Now what these guys do is move the MAF from before the turbo to right before the throttle body.. I honestly don't know how this works. But would it be the same if i move my M-tune maf before my throttle body?

Josh if you want to PM me about it, go for it.
John if you see this, same question applies to your maf also.

It can be done.
The MAF sensor I use can be done in a blow-through configuration...
With the MAF is reading airflow as it enters the engine, there are, in-theory, a couple advantages:

This eliminates some of the latency from a draw-through type configuration.
The system can measure exact IATs as this would be post-intercooler.
It also frees up the pre-turbo plumbing, generally allowing for more fabrication freedom.

The main disadvantage, for the 951, is that a draw-through setup requires even more hardware - as it would need both pre-throttlebody intercooler piping/MAF, and pre-turbo piping. Another issue is that generally blow-through applications use/require a 3"/76mm pipe to house the MAF sensor. This is quite a bit bigger than the typical 951 intercooler outlet, piping, and throttlebody.

With the 951, I generally see it as more effort than its worth.

Thanks josh.

Basically my thought was in making a custom intake for a project and thought about doing the maf post turbo. I didn't take in the throttle body but if i do eventually do it, the throttle body would need to be looked at and changed.
If i do, do it, i'll first need to find a doner intake to chop. Then i'll PM you for specs for the MAF housing.

thanks. good food for thought.

Anyone ever do this with their Rogue stuff?
I have a C-tune which is basically an autothority maf with M-tune software. My maf is located in a 3.5" pipe right behind the filter but quickly necks down to 3" for the remainder. I could still use 3" IC piping without a problem, right?

I want to clear up some stuff under the hood and use a bigger pre-turbo pipe.

I was planning on making bigger IC pipes eventually anyway so if anything it's just moving the scheduling up a bit.

I did this a few years ago with a Vitesse maf . I could not notice a difference and the piping solution i choose did not look to great so i changed back to the stock draw trough . the biggest plus is if you have a boost leak the car wont act weirdly as it will only measure air right before the intake and not the loss .

What size pipe did you use for it?
