Default Wastegate install help

Related to my other thread I should be receiving a good used LR Dual Port wastegate. This will be my first wastegate install on any car much less the 944. I have an 86 with the 1 piece crossover. It is my understanding the crossover pipe must be removed to install the new wastegate. All the tutorials I have found show the 2 piece crossover. Can I manage to remove the wastegate without dropping my 1 piece crossover pipe?

This is my last shot at fixing my no boost issue so I have my fingers crossed. BTW my wastegate is completely stock and I'm sure pretty rusted on there.

When I took mine off I was removing the crossover pipe, but I believe you can leave that piece in and still remove the WG. You will probably need to losen some nuts and bolts though.

No need to remove crossover pipe. There are two different pipe to WG flanges, three and four bolt. I think earlier cars had the three. Must have the right WG match.

Is there anything that can be done to try and "unstick" the wastegate while it's still installed, just to confirm the problem?

I believe you have the very early crossover without a separate waste gate tube from the crossover. You should be able to remove it, but it will be real bear to get out. I have taken mine off without removing the pipe from the crossover.

On my 86, I had no problems installing and later removing a Tial 38mm without messing with the crossover pipe.
