Default Preventative Maintenance Day

I declare today Preventative Maintenance Day
  • If you changed your timing/balance belts before 30k miles/3 years, congratulations, today is the day your belts would have broken and bent your valves.
  • If you replaced your waterpump while you were in there, congratulations, today is the day the pump would have seized, broken your new belts AND bent your valves.
  • If you flushed your brake fluid in the last two years, congratulations, today is the day you would have rear ended that truck in front of you because there was water/air in your lines.
  • If you replaced the fuel lines in the engine bay, including the jumper line, contratulations, today is the day your car would have gone up in flames.
  • And many, many more...
You get the idea, point being that you'll (fortunately) never really know what ill may have befallen you had you not proactively maintained your car but you can sleep a little easier at night knowing that you did.

So, here's to you Mr. "If It Ain't Broke Fix It Before It Does" Man.

hmmm...check on everything but the brake fluid change. Then again the car has only been tracked twice in the last 3 or four years (which was the last flush).

My brake fluid is a few years old and my pedal is feeling kind of mushy. I'm planning on replacing my original brake lines and replacing the fluid. Should I expect a big difference in my pedal feel?

Definitely do it. I didn't experience what I'd call a night-and-day difference, but I had never done this before and tbh I probably didn't get all the air out. Still, there was a significant improvement in pedal feel and braking power.

I've read that it's hard to get a solid pedal on the 944. I think the large calipers means a lot of movement, hence a lot of pedal travel. I would love to get the pedal to feel like an 80s Carrera but I don't know if that's possible.

Do yourself a favor and get some kind of power bleeder. I got a Motive Power Bleeder but some people prefer a vacuum system.
