951/S2 Front Lip/Splitter...$99
Ok, I admit it, I was cheating on my car and ogling the 996 Turbo board on RL. Came across a discussion about $99 Ebay replica front lips for the 996 Turbos and the reviews were quite good. Factory parts are something like $375 for this piece.
Then I got to thinkin'...hmmm, a 996 is roughly the same width as a 951, wonder if that thing would work on our cars? For $99 and free shipping I figured it was worth a try, worst case I could sell it to one of the guys on the 996 Turbo board and get most of my money back.
Turns out it does
This is not a direct bolt up, it tooks some manipulation and some cutting to make it work.
Here are a few pics of the assebmly process, this is the bumper cover upside down, off the car (obviously). As you can see, the batwing stays in place:
Top 10 Things to Know About the GE-996T951 Splitter™:
1) Is it a perfect fit? No, the 996 lip overhangs ~8 inches past the ends of the 951 nose piece once you mount it. I just cut the excess off, cut off the end cap, cut it down to size and glued them on with CA glue. Had to bend the lip a bit to get it to match the contours of the 951 bumper cover, a heat gun helped with persuasion.
2) How does it attach to the bumper cover? I attached the lip with self-tapping screws into the tabs where the batwing mounts.
3) How does it work with the batwing? I had to drill holes in the lip mounting surface to allow the stock batwing screws access to the speednuts.
4) Who did you buy it from? An Ebay search of "Porsche 996 lip" will turn up several hits, here's the link to the guys I bought it from:

5) Does it add downforce? Not likely.
6) Will it hit a curb if you're stupid? Yep
7) Is it a perfect match for the factory trim? No, it's a little smooth and shiny. Next time the bumper cover is off I'll probably paint the lip with some textured bumper cover paint to make the shiny plastic match the other black plastic trim a bit better. Or maybe I'll just let it get a nice road rash patina...
8) How does it look in person? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I kinda dig it.
9) Are you worried about damaging the 951 bumper cover? Yep, see No. 6 above
10) Will it solve world hunger? Not likely but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Hope this helps someone else out, my CPR splitter had finally given up the ghost after a run in with some furry creature and I needed to come up with a solution.
Cheers.

Great write up, but simply doesn't do justice on your perfect interior car. The rest of your car is beautiful, sorry but that shiny plastic thing looks too cheap in my opinion. All that matters is that you are happy with it though.

I think it would look a lot better without the holes in it. As-is, I think it looks better with no splitter IMO. The rest of the car looks fantastic as usual!

I saw this on Saturday and I have to say it looks awesome in person. Very few people wouldn't know that the car didn't come with it from the factory. Once my fiberglass front splitter bites the dust, which is one unforeseen bump away, I"ll mount all the factory underbody stuff and add this.

Fixed, thx Doug.
Like Doc said, I think it looks better in person than maybe what the pictures show. I will most likely add some texture to it and then it'll match the trim pieces under the sills a little better. Will post up some more pictures after that, dependent on it ever *(&(^$ stopping snowing in Colorado!
As for the holes, well those are there as uber top secret vortex generators, all a part of my carefully engineered aero package

Still showing the license plate in one other pic. I personally don't see what the big deal is, if you want to come to my house and try to take it, I'm here with firepower ready and waiting.

You may need to refresh your browser doc.
And no, I'm not that worried about it, whoever comes and steals it would probably get it high centered on my ghetto spoiler anyway, lol!
