When you looked at your hatch seal, was there an obvious problem area or did it look good?

I did not see any soot around the heat sbield. Could be tbe cracked section only opened under hard acceleration.

I could see daylight through my hatch seal so that was obvious, the rubber was hard and shrunk.

I am starting to think no that this may be the carbon trap for the gas vapor. It is supposedly located under the fender liner which would explain the smell not really being evident at idle. I also find my fuel economy to be poor and the smell only appears at 35 mph and above at cruise.

Has anyone else replaced or removed their charcol canister?

Beginning to wonder if the down pipe is the culprit, I noticed white deposit line on the underside for its entire length.

I got the same problem, it smell raw only at boost, windows down or up. I was thinking it was the heater valve. Have you find out anything yet?

I have the same problem - exhaust smell under boost. Most likely a cracked weld on high pressure side - headers, crossover pipe or short wastegate tie pipe. Really dificult to see due to double wall on headers and part of the crossover pipe. I am going to take a close look first. If I don't see anythyng obvious, then I plan on renting FLIR thermal imaging camera from home Depot to spot the leak, may need to do it on a dyno if the leak is only under full boost only. The high pressure exhaust parts are notorious for cracks. Good luck to you and keep us updated!

I tried sucking in a little Seafoam in to the intake manifold today, trick I found on Utube. Voila, leaks at the header to x-over manifold, the last remaining leak.

I gots an exhaust smell after driving a bit, more noticeable from the drivers side, and usually after the turbo fan kicks in. Had my exhaust repaired and new can put in the other day and they told me I had one of those too.

Little effect on performance of the car, just a noticeable smell.

You said you replaced yours, so guess there's little chance of that though.

Just placed the vacuum line from the blow off valve and dipped it in the bottle with engine running for 5 sec and voila, smoke!

Hmm. Seems like a worthwhile way to find the leak. Thanks Kent!

The other problem I noticed while driving the smokey car was my new hatch seal was not SEALING! So I am order a bunch of new pins to see if the will hold the hatch tight.
