Default Setting a MBC

I did a search, but most of the results were about what boost pressure people use. This will be my first time installing a MBC. I will be installing a Vitesse AFM chip, and aftermarket boost gauge at the same time. How do you most of you set the boost controller? Do you hook it to an air compressor first to set it on the bench or install it then drive the car? I don't want to have it set too high and blow something up.

Start with it all the way off, and keep making 4th gear pulls, increasing boost pressure on each pull, until you reach the boost level you desire.

What rpm should I go up to?

depends on the turbo, id go to at least 500 rpm after you hit full boost or even 1000 rpm to see if it creeps up

I'd say 4k is enough, really depends when your turbo spools. Once boost has built and stabilized on your gauge you should be good.

just be careful, the setting toward the end is very rapid. you will turn it many times with no effect then it will go up fast with little turn of the ****.

Just installed mine last summer using this method. Seemed to work great for me and didn't take long to get it dialed in to 15 lbs. Still cast a wary eye on the gauge when I'm in the boost...

Set the MBC to achieve maximum boost in 4th gear at >5K rpm. This is hard to do on the street, so if you have access to a dyno that's the way to go. You should also get a wideband o2 gauge to ensure you are not running too lean. Set the MBC to achieve max boost with good AFRs is more important than just getting the boost you want.

I found that if I didn't set my mbc in 4th at >5krpm I would be lower on boost in 3rd.
