Default Vibration @ High RPM & High Load

I have a vibration at high rpm & high load, only noticable above 4500-5000rpm @ generous throttle openings. I've observed this in 2nd gear every time I wind it out.

I don't wind out 3rd gear often enough to say if it is present there also. 1st gear is too quick to say anything useful.

I am thinking it is the torque tube bearings, as they have been noisy for some time now. (Unless it is the input shaft bearings in the trans, which seems unlikely).

Thoughts?

Need more info. Where do you feel the vibration? Motor? Middle of the car? The rear? How can you tell its vibrating (feel it in the seat? The pedals? The chassis/tunnel? The shifter? Just hear it? What direction?).

Did this build up over time, or just one day, woah, vibrating now.

Ben,

Vibration is coming from the rear of the car, definitely not an engine vibration. I feel it in the seat, I haven't tried putting a hand on the tunnel.

Vibration itself is not audible.

I noticed the vibration all of a sudden (though I don't drive the car daily)... the first time I noticed it, I probably hadn't driven the car in at least a few weeks.

My first thought was that the clutch was starting to go... and the slip/grab/slip/grab was causing the vibration... (clutch has ~35k miles on it and I don't abuse it at all). But after further thought ... I just don't think thats what it is.

It sounds like the CV shafts are starting to go if this happens under acceleration.

Yeah I'd check your CV's.

Thanks -- I'll check them out.

I did a quick visual to see if any bolts backed out (didn't see anything) -- but I'll check it out more thoroughly and check the torque on the bolts.

CVs are probably ~45k old... again, no abuse.

Transmission mount. Especially if it's one of those rubber filled ones.
