lol, they weren't racing at that time, it was a qualifying lap, oh let me guess another 928 owner? and it wasn't a Vw more likely a Clio Renaultsport 197 R27 Cup Car.

Race car drivers do weave, and they are trying to heat their tires. However, the object of weaving isn't to warm.

If you've ever seen a set of racing tires close up, you know how different they are from the tires on your family car. Racing "slicks" are just that, treadless tires. But they're not totally slick. The manufacturing process does leave some rough spots and a couple of slow laps scrubs the roughness and debris off the surface.

Equally important, tires aren't at maximum grip when cold and those first slow laps warm them up enough so that they do their thing when up to full speed--like in the nanosecond after the green flag drops.

When you see drivers weaving their cars back and forth, they're also testing to see exactly how the tires grip the surface, how the tires are setting up on the car, how the car is handling with these tires through the track. Sometimes a little suspension adjustment is needed as well; the driver can make that tweak from inside the car.

Old 911 turn way better than 928 and so does 944. You feel wrong, probably it has to do something with your avatar.

Although, back in '85 I did race a 928S through a small town in Montanna. Couldn't pass, and he couldn't pull away... another story, another car...

928 on country roads could have been any of these two?

i have no problem with that off road 928.

that thing is cool.

i still wish i could afford a GTS in stock trim.

but i'd do something to switch up the front end and make it look more presentable.

The GTR was pretty impressive in its time, but if you entered it in a similar class these days you'd get roasted by half the Boxsters out there.
