Default New Knock Counter

Been working on an enhanced knock counter. In addition to counting all knocks like a Curtis counter, it also keeps a separate knock count for wide open throttle knocking (i.e., counts happening when the full throttle signal --KLR pin 18 -- is active). It also creates a fixed pulse for the Zeitronix to log for each knock event. Haven't finished all the software yet, but the possibilities are endless with the Arduino. Planning to keep track of knock by rpm so I can scroll through and see where the knock is happening. Also planning to integrate with my boost controller to pull boost and/or with the Vitesse piggback to switch to a safety map or to trigger the V-Flex protection mode if too much knock happens...

That's cool Tom, can you re-set to zero?

So the question is, how much knock is too much knock?

Nice project Tom! Are you going to post schematics?

I haven't actually written one up but can once I'm done. Right now, there is almost nothing but the arduino and the LCD. I made up a semi-clean power supply with a 7812 and several decoupling capacitors, and am running the knock and full throttle signals through (fast) voltage followers (CA3240EZ) to be on the safe side. The programming code is probably the more interesting part, but for now it's still work in process as I add in the functionality.

Sure, I could reset it to pi if I wanted. The whole thing is programmable, so resetting is no issue at all... (I added a reset switch to my Curtis counter a while back -- there was a thread showing how...)

I hope not to find out. If I'm getting consistent knocks at any rpm at WOT, I try to dial it out with less timing or boost. Otherwise, with healthy boost, I live with 1 or 2 random (non-recurring) WOT counts per gear... Wish I had a knock counter back when I was blowing head gaskets like crazy -- I'm guessing I would have seen a consistent and large number of counts per gear...

Nice Shift boot
You bet - it will be the first Element in the country with a knock counter...

Shift boot is a 10 yr old aftermarket replacement. I was looking for one made of limp maroon leather with less texture, like an old lady's hand bag, but what are ya gonna do...

Great work as usual Tom. Should produce some interesting data.

ps...I thought your shift boot was Mr T's Ball sack!

Pretty cool. Why do you have 2 Zitronix Gauges? if they are multi guages

I got the first one before they came out with the multi. I installed them both because it's helpful to see more than one output at a time (boost v AFR, EGT v AFR, etc.).

I see. BTW you know the Multi one can show 2 outputs at the same time.

Where are you going to place your counter?

I may have missed it; how are you connecting the arduino to the KLR? Or is it through the zeitronix?
