Splitter, form or function ?.
While I have the batwing off my car I thought about making up a small splitter, something flat that protrudes out horizontally around 3 inches, is this likely to have any handling benefit or will it be just cosmetic ?.

Mostly cosmetic at reasonable speeds. I lost my splitter on track once and I could feel a slight difference, but just that, very slight. It will also scrape more depending on your ride height.

count me in as a fan of doing something with the lower nose.... i don't track my car, but the nose of your S2 has at least quite a lot in common with a 968. my car felt good at 140 mph before. then, after fabbing a new lower section and adding about an inch to the the car's length, i was hoping to push some air to the sides and make downforce. i (kind of) forgot about it, and a few months later, i was driving south through Geogia on 75 and floored it... felt an improvement. the car got up to top speed sooner and felt very planted. gas mileage is also up about 1.5 mpg.

Thanks guys, not an S2 though, when it comes to 944's I only do turbo's . To make it fit properly between the batwing and the front bumper is a lot of messing about for a one off, and if the benefit is minimal maybe what Porsche did is good enough.

first you'll need a 997 lower valance (circa 2007).
where are you located ?
btw,
you won't like me when i tell you what just the glue (to keep weight at a minimum) costs.

I have a CPR street version splitter. It replaces the batwing/has its own batwing section, I can tell a difference from maybe 70+ mph if the batwing section is missing on a car, but I've had this thing so long I can't tell from the stock batwing to the CPR splitter. Car feels planted at 140mph though.

How about this one?

It has an integrated batwing, price is OK, not too low or obnoxious.

makes a difference above 100mph, enough to unbalance the car if you don't increase rear downforce. The one in my avatar is the AIR splitter for track cars - ugly for a street car for sure.

That's suprising, you could actually feel the rear getting looser without that rear wing ?. I have the bridge spoiler on my car, not sure if that makes any difference to downforce.

I can say that I spun after I added the splitter but before I added my wing, not exactly scientific evidence. The car seemed to drift more-or-less neutrally before I added the splitter, then after the splitter I lost the tail of the car at about 115 mph in a fast sweeper and it really took me by surprise. There are many possible explanations for this but I just decided to add more rear downforce and the car has felt much better ever since. For me, if I got rid of the wing I would also go with the stock front end. For a street car just do what looks good. Many good drivers have no problems with a splitter and stock rear spoiler, but I don't consider myself a good driver.
