That is an interesting spot for the wastegate... I'm not sure if there are any advantages to it.. except that it's shiny and visible from under the hood. That's a pretty awesome build though. I'd love to see it all done.

Seemed like a nice guy who was happy to share his work on this very nice looking build, but he just fell off the earth mid way through last year...?

very interesting build. i wonder what he's going to do for the EMS (i only looked at the pictures so if he mentioned it.. whoops)

There's a few things i would have done differently. the wast gate for starters to remain in the stock location.
With all that effort i would have went for a twin scroll set up also.

Whats wrong with this WG routing?
Any ups or downs?

Seems a lot easier to wrench with it in this position!

I don't think there's anything wrong with the WG routing... It just seems like a lot of work for little to no gain. I mean, yes, it's probably a bit easier to get to in that position... but I can count on one finger how many times I've removed my WG without the rest of the exhaust it's attached to. I guess that just doesn't seem like a good enough reason. I'll stick with my first assessment. He put it there because it's shiny and he wanted it to be easily visible. Regardless of all that, it's an awesome build, and some very very good fab work.

Also bear in mind that his exact position is not possible on a car with the stock brake booster in place (which is guess is all 944's except the pure race cars).

Interesting build, I would say the Wastegate is there for looks as well but sweet idea. Big fan of ITBs

Check out his Facebook page. Some very nice work which I guess has taken precedent over this lowly i4 Porsche project..lol..

I highly doubt looks had any motivation for this guy to put the wastegate where it is at. He says in the thread in the link he was looking for a good place to mount it and I imagine the spot he picked was the easiest and required the least materials. He's fabbing the whole exhaust himself, so there is not the slightest advantage to putting the wastegate in the factory position, it would just take more time and cost more. Based on the rest of his commentary, the purpose/nature of the build, and the rest of the work, I would be surprised if this guy said "Hey, it would look hella sick if I put a wastegate right here. I wander what it would take to do that?"

Also, for the EMS, he says the car is going to another shop for tuning so I imagine he doesn't have much info on that.

I might put mine there when I build my new headers out of simplicity.
One drawback I can see is that it will bring a bit more heat closer to the engine. But my main concern is that I want to try to build a separate wastegate exhaust all the way back and then that position doesn't make sense.
