Default Need clutch advice, please.

My clutch started slipping and I assume I need a new one. The current clutch is OEM with the cup disc and was replaced 20k miles ago. Which setup would you recommend for a daily driver? Any thoughts regarding ZF vs Sachs vs SPEC stage 2 ? I wonder if anybody has any experience with the SPEC setup? Thank you.

Spec stage 2+ has been great in my 1988 TS, but does have a little chatter on take up in 1st. My brother just installed the Spec stage 2 in his 1989 TS and is pleased. Mike

It depends how much power your car is making. I would stick with stock cup set up unless you need something stronger to prevent slipping. Stock clutches seem to start slipping around 350rwhp (dynojet). If you are getting close to that power level, then I'd do the KEP 1 pressure plate and cup disk. The KEP will hold a ton of power and engages exactly like a factory car (with a slightly stiffer pedal). All other clutches I've tried on my car (including a spec) have shuddered when starting off, which is annoying (to me) for a street car...

+1 - I'm not making big power, but went with the KEP 1 and cup disk and am very happy with it. No chatter/shudder on take off, which was important to me as the wife might drive it at times.

I've had two Spec clutches and they both shudder. I have a KEP in my track car that does not.

I'm very happy with my stock PP and 930 Sachs clutch. I got it from allzim.

On a side note, did you check clutch pedal adjustment, clutch wear, or for oil leaks from rear main seal to determine if your clutch was really gone? Clark's garage has some good info about checking all that. My clutch was slipping after a new master cylinder. Turns out it was adjusted wrong.

agree with above also. My .02 to reiterate - street - stay with a spring disc not solid, Paragon sells the Cup Car clutch kit and several other good street choices. Track, I like solid copper puck clutch disc, KEP PP.
