Default How is Everyone getting Sub-3000lb 951s

I see most people having sub 3000lb 951s. I have an '86 and it is my understaning that 86 is the lightest. Yet when I weight my car on the dragstrip scale, I was 3305lbs.

I dont get how this is happening on anything but a stripped down 951? There is a 951 weight savings calculator floating around.

So just taking some of the numbers from it:

I already have aftermarkets exhaust with no cat. Weight savings.
No rear seat top. weight savings
Roll bar: weight addition
Different seats: weight addition.
Empty Washer Tank: weight savings

Where I can easily lose some weight:
Spare tire: 28lbs
Tool kit/flator: 5 lbs
Racing seats: Probably loose 80-100lbs there
Rear Carpet (i see claims it weighs 20lbs..seems high)
Total: 130ish pounds

Beyond this its starts becoming very hard to lose weight. We have to look at fiberglass (carbon) body parts, lexan hatch, etc, etc.

I am just not seeing how so many people are running 300lbs lighter than I am unless most people have no carpet, gutted interiors, stripped everything down, etc. What am I doing wrong?

This is even more perplexing to me know....

I figured weight was added with seats..but it doesnt appear top be the case.

http://www.recaro-automotive.com/us/...ed.html#c99851

The seat weight of these is claimed to be 39.7lb. Stock seats are claimed at 42lbs each. So i shouldnt have gained weight here.

When people are saying their car weighs 3000lbs, are people measuring with or without driver? I should add that my car is about 3130 without driver. But real racing weight is what matters. Of course I have also generally weighed the car full of fuel too. So that is another 70-80lbs. But a car without fuel or driver doesnt do much.

Are you sure on the accuracy of the scale you used? Did any other stock cars weigh in that you can compare weights with?

How much gas did you have in the tank? The difference between a full and half tank can account for 60+lbs.

Light weight battery is an option, i ran a PC680 for almost 7 years (daily driven also). That cut a little over 25lbs.

Euro rear bumper is helpful also. Stock bumper and shocks is around 30lbs or so. Euro rear with mounts is 13lbs.

What seats are you running? 4-way power leather sport seats were like 55lbs each. If you put something like a fixed back in you can probably cut about 30-35lbs per side.

What wheels are you using? I had a set of replica C2 Turbo wheels that were really heavy, easily 6-8lbs heavier per wheel than the real OEM wheel.

A/C delete is another option. Compressor and bracket were about 20lbs if i remember right,

I suspect it is pretty accurate. It was the drag strip scale. When I have weighed myself on my bike on the scale, it was pretty damn close to claimed wet weight + driver (within 10 lbs).

Close to full.

My battery is old (need a new one) and pretty large. Maybe I will put one of these in.

This is probably a good idea. Looks better too. Do the fiberglass bumpers reduce it even more? I suspect fiberglass and factory will cost about the same.

Recaro Orthopeds. Claimed weight is 39lbs.

Fikse FM10. These are light wheels. Lost weight there.

I like A/C. Its worth 20lbs.

This battery?

Hood, doors, seats, hatch, exhaust. They're probably the biggest culprits for weight. Obviously not many people change their doors but the stock seats (esp motorised) are super heavy. Rear glass hatch vs lexan. Carbon hood vs stock. I got mine down to 2630lbs with 1/4 tank of fuel, no driver inc pretty extensive cage. I get the impression that a lot of stock cars weigh more than people think.

My '89 is under 3,000# and I haven't done all that much to reduce weight (only what's allowed in PCA racing stock class). Here's a quick list of what I've done:
removed ac compressor and condensor
lightweight Odyssey battery
replaced stock seats w/ fiberglass shells
removed sound deadening in passenger compartment (carpet and full interior remain except for 10 speaker door panels). Hatch area carpet remains
Stereo head unit and equalizer removed
removed spare tire
removed rear seat back
I have a full cage so that adds back weight
Forged wheels (those save ~5# each over stock clubsports)
Replaced cat-back with 3", wastegate dumps to atmosphere
Replaced stock sway bars w/ alum
Replaced control arms w/ Charlie Arms

3305 including driver? A 300+ lb driver? Never seen a 951 weigh that much.

My bone stock 89 Turbos were in the 3030 to 3060 lb range when weighed on an NHRA scale at the local race track.

I am about 170lbs.

That is why I am not getting why my car is so heavy.

Lose 20lbs by going to euro bumper. 40lbs with a fiberglass rear bumper cap. Lose 40lbs by going to race seats. Fiberglass hood-25-30lbs. Strip down interior and sound deadening. 30-50+ lbs. Headlight delete or at least the GTS lights. Lithium battery looses about 25lbs. Tons' of stuff to do. Street ability gets hampered heavily with many on the list though.
