Yup!

Get new gears. Install with the roof in the fully extended position and the cable at the end of travel. Be careful when retracting them for removal as this is where the damage tends to occur.

I went through 2 sets of gears trying to get it right.

Thanks u guys,
I'm looking at Clark's Garage on the sunroof adjusting procedure. I got some gear laying around for a reason. This car is a love project, 3 years has been sitting collecting fungus and dust. The sun roof seal also needs replacement and the outside door brackets.

When you open your sunroof and it stops, push up in the middle at the front of your sunroof where the interlock switch is. While pushing against the sunroof, push the button to see if it opens more. If it does, then your interlock switch needs to be adjusted. A good indicator is if your sunroof just stops and you don't hear the motor still running. If you hear the motor still running, then the gears are stripped.

I've had both issues with mine.

Is there anything more frustrating on these cars then the #$%^ sunroof gears? I think not!

Having a spare set of gears ranks right up there with having a spare DME relay.

if/when you buy new gears to do the replacement job, buy two extra because you'll strip at least one of them...not that i did anything like that.

Adjust the friction drag, per Clarks page, before you stall the new gears. Adjust friction on low end. Otherwise you will need two sets of gears. I know this from experience.

To avoid stripping gears when replacing/timing the roof, make sure you re-adjust the sunroof clutch. Most (all?) will be way too tight, causing the broken gears. If, while doing your replacement sequence per Clark's, you back off the clutch and slowly tighten until it just lifts the roof all the way, most if not all of the gear problems go away. Trust me on this.

Good info. I have to tackle this PITA damned issue as well. I'm okay with big stuff like head gaskets or clutches, but crap like the sunroof just pisses me off.
