Mid Ohio Race Weekend 2.0
I thought some of you guys might be interested in the exploits of the 944 CTSV running in NASA ST2 (8.7:1) this past weekend. This was the second race weekend with the V8. I am running BF Goodrich R1's and a little more information would have helped. Talking with BF engineers this week I learned that they do not increase pressure like the Hoosiers resulting in a very soft (noticeable) sidewall deflection for several laps until the pressure builds up.
Mid Ohio - Pro Course NASA Great Lakes Region
Race 1 qualifying in the rain we ran a 2:02 to put the car second overall to Dean Martin (Continental Tire Champion in 2009 and last years ST2 Nat'l champ). Qualified ahead of all ST1 and STU including a DP car. So we started from the front row and he kicked my *** in the first few laps, I ended up third after a poorly executed pass of traffic cost me second place, rain stared on lap 5 and we slid around the track on slicks until the checkered flag.
Race 2 qualified 3rd in class and finished 4th. After a relatively slow start, I was able to run my last 10 (of 18) laps at 1:33:9 to 1:32:6.
The NASA National Championships are next September 6-9. Come out and see us if you're close. I do not have any illusions of grandeur as there are 5 competitors in ST2 that are current World Challenge drivers in World Challenge cars.
The photos are from June 30/August 1 race. I am sandwiched between the two WC Mustangs.

I like the BFG's and will be getting some support from them at Nationals. I was able to win some tires via their contingency program. They are delivering, mounting and balancing at no charge which is also very nice. I learned from their engineers that we were starting with too low a pressure. They do not increase pressure as much as the R6 which is the data we based our settings on. I would recommend them over the R6.
I will edit some video to post this weekend. We only have 3 weeks to get ready and we have a lot to do.

Sweet, those are some fast lap times. How many seconds (or tenths) do you think the car has left to shave off once you get the tire pressures right and get more seat time with the v8? It would be awesome to get a 944 v8 into the 1:20's at Mid-Ohio!
I'm just hoping to get mine into the high 1:30's on street tires in NASA TTS next year.

Decreasing my lap times will be about correcting small mistakes. Running the last 10 laps of Sunday's race is evidence that the tires are effective once up to temperature. There are 4 or 5 places that I can gain some time, just like we have been doing over the last few weekends. It will be key to remain calm and focused and my new cool suit will come in handy. My goal for nationals is a 1:31 but who knows, it could be raining for 4 days.

I could have sworn I posted in here. But to repeat my thoughts. Disaster, your car seems to fit perfectly in that picture. All American V8's with matching rear wings.
Love the car.

I have a question for you guys that have ran Mid Ohio. A friend of mine is running with PCA this weekend and posted a 1:24:9. How is this compared to other events? I looked up some past times at that track and found some under 1 minute. Do they run different track layouts also?

TO be able to keep up? Then that's funny.
Otherwise, his class as stated, ST2 is a pretty general Class for all makes and models if that's what you meant? And sometimes they throw more than one class into one race heat.
