Default Experiment Success: Adding a quart of VR Racing 60w to my normal oil change...

Ok, I run VR 20w50 in my 944TS with 176k on the odo: no oil consumption, full valve job about 30k miles ago.

In 106d while fully heat soaked & the AC running it's heart out, my oil pressure began to barely dip below 2 bar at idle.

Two weeks ago I changed my oil having about 4500 on the oil that's in it. AFM car with OEM air filter, tuned for 20mpg city, rarely on boost so the oil stays pretty clean.

Change my oil & filled with VR (valvoline Racing 20w50 including 1 quart of VR 60w oil to thicken it up: boy did it: I now see 2.5 bar (1/2 a bar higher) at idle with the same heat soak at multiple observed times, so the one quart of 60w appears to be pulling it's load quite well.

My other cars run Mobil 1 15w50; I think I'll add a single quart of VR60w at each new oil change as well to thicken it up: the 911 with 550hp gets warm at times even with 12 quarts in the system.

A good find!

no, VR20/50 is not a synthetic, nor is the VR60w

I've mixed oils before with M-1 & Brad Penn for years. Talked to a chemist/racer once at a track who did it just in case: worked great for him (for years) & mixed just fine.

I'm using Valvoline VR1 10w60 Racing synthetic blend, and I'm experiencing similar results.. Oil pressure never goes below 3 bar at idle no matter how hot it is, and I have yet to do fill ups between oil changes. Even after 3000 miles oil level is at the top mark and still clear golden color..

I love it and I think my car does too...
