Default Intermittent charging

I've observed my 951 appears to have an intermittent charging issue.

Haven't pulled the alternator to check it yet, but the intermittent (mostly not)
has me a little baffled.

checked wiring - and it is nice and tight.

I'm observing the issue by monitoring the voltage on the dash instrument panel.

The non-charging light never lights.

Thinking it might be a regulator that heats up then stops, cools off,
then starts charging -- but it doesn't always start charging even
when starting -- but other times it does.

before I rip into the alternator -- figured I'd ask around first.
See if anyone has been there done that.

check resistance between the positive battery terminal and the alternator nut. If its more than .08 or so, clean off your battery terminal and cable. (Do the same for your ground cable) If that doesn't work, you have a bad cable that needs to be changed.

I'm sorry if this is pointing out the obvious, but maybe the battery is shot. Everything apparently working but the battery won't charge are exactly the symptoms I have experienced.

Ive had similar issues in the past and it was a bad/worn out voltage regulator in the alt.

If the voltage reg is built in (which I belive it is) the brushes are shot. Go ahead and order a new one and replace it. Pretty sure that's your problem!

My 85.5 N/A was doing the same thing, I'd get weird reaqdings on a DVOM. Easy fix!

hook up a voltmeter to it first to ensure the gauge is merely not "sticking" a bit. Mine does this.

Yep that's what I did..andf it looked like my DVOM was sticking! 13 volts, then nothing , something inbetween 11 and 13 then nothing,etc...
I took it in and the tech checked it and he was kinda like "it's the voltage regulator you dork!

Really worn votage regulator, lbushings and they were making and losing contact!
