alternative.Aftermarket Iginition Coil?
Anyone have any thoughts/experience with aftermarket iginition coils for the 951? It appears I need to change mine and just wondering what the alternatives are and the benefits to an alternative.
TIA for the thoughts/suggestions/help.

I changed my set up over to MSD...Box/Coil/Tach adapter. works great. Anything to decrease the turbo lag a bit haha. I think the MSD gives twice the spark up to 3000rpm if i remember correctly.

After a couple of hrs searching and then calling Bosch (where I just got a "Dispatcher") I finally got a call back from Bosh Tech Support. The OE Coil has a primary resistance of < 0.4 ohms. This is important as you look at aftermarket replacements as they can come in a number of different primary resistances.
I just order the MSD 8202 from Jegs. It was only $37.99 (well really $47.98 with the mandatory "handling" charge of $9.99) but that was still better than the best price I could find for the OE Bosch was $65-ish at Rock Auto.
Which now of course opens the question(s) of what ignition to use to eliminate the distributor & cap.....
Any suggestions?

Well everyone has their opinion.... I chated with a couple of VERY credible sources today they really like the MSD and have used many MANY of them without any issues.
944V8inDFW, while I can acknowledge the HP and $$ advantages of the LS1 swap, it isn't for me. I like the sound of 4 bangers, I like turbos and (this is just to me) an LS1 swap is no longer a Porsche. Right, wrong or indifferent, that's the way it plays to me.... Just sayin'

Make sure you replace the cap and rotor. If you search, you can find a couple of pictures of caps that got burned. From the web site:
"Distributor Cap and Rotor: It is recommended to install a new distributor cap and rotor when installing the MSD Ignition Control. The cap should be clean inside and out especially the terminals and rotor tip. On vehicles with smaller caps, it is possible for the air inside the cap to become electrically charged causing crossfire which can result in misfire. This can be prevented by drilling a couple vent holes in the cap. The holes should be placed between the terminals, at rotor height and face away from the intake. If your environment demands it, place a small piece of screen over the hole to act as a filter."

Funny you should bring that up.... Cap, Rotor and Coil are all supposed to arrive tomorrow. And they all go on together.
New plugs went in tonight so hopefully the car will start and run correctly with all the new parts. ;-)
