Default Help with drill bit size and tap to use

I would like to tap a thread in a mounting braket I had made, but not sure which drill bit or tap size to use.

I would like to use the small 10mm mounting bolts used for example in mounting the fuel rail to the cam tower.

Thanks
Steve

To tap an m10 x 1.5 you need to pre-drill with an 8.5mm bit

Thanks what would be the comparable drillbit for American size?

The race cars are my mechanics in a shop that I share with himm.

The gray one in the photo is my abandoned project and it is being currently set up with the yellow paint game similar to the other Green and orange car

The bolts that take a 10mm wrench are actually M6 bolts. So, using the diameter minus pitch formula, you'd want to use a drill that is about 5mm (13/64 should be close enough). If you are cutting threads in aluminum, you might want to helicoil it though...

Thanks actually through a modification on the heatsheild near the turbo. It was forgotten and I don't feel like dragging the car to the shop in the aviator which is about 2hrs away to have help pulling the turbo. I am planning on sectioning the heatsheild and securing the upper half to the mounting I had welded to the intake bracket. I hacked up one sheild and was able to fit it although I had removed a bit too much as I changed ideas of insertion. I plan to work on later today. If it works I will post images. If not guess I will drag to shop or run for a while without it. I have not started this used engine so incase it has to come back out or something else I don't want to pull until it is running and I know all is good

Thanks for the help.
