Default Bracket thingy at rear of cylinder head

I'm just trying to get my cylinder head off, and all the exhaust and head bolts are off (including the two 6mm hex head bolts), been able to lift it a little, but...

there's this stupid bracket thing at the back that is preventing me from getting it cleanly off, and I can't see an easy way to get it off. Can anyone suggest anything?

I don;t really want to take everything apart there, as it'll just complicate the re-assembly... but I can't see how to get at the bolts that are holding the bracket on.

the only way I know of to get that off is to use a combination wrench on the front 13mm bolt holding it to the head, and there should be space to get a 13mm socket on the rear one with a small extension. it takes a lot of patience.

That sounds plausible, thx. Also sounds like quite a few of the other bolts that I've had to get at in the past couple of weeks. I guess that's a downside of the 924-944-951 evolution... you end up with more bolts and fasteners in places that you'd never put them if you were starting with a clean sheet of paper.

I'm not planning on reusing the CV so I just bent the damn thing out of the way to get to those bolts.

Managed to get it with the aid of a few traditional expressions of frustration and anger. The rear one, removed with the socket, was easier than the front one - which was clearly designed to be installed and removed without those hoses in the way...

I was frustrated by that the first time I took it off. I slotted it so it goes on easier. Be careful putting it back on. One of those bolts is longer than the other, at least on my car. Caused a bad leak after everything back together.

Ah... those are both excellent tips. Which one is longer? (Really should have paid more attention when removing them - though I guess I can check the depth of the bores now the head is off)

it doesn't even matter if the hoses are there or not really, you'll still hit the top of the AOS if you try. and adding to that, you'll need to put the AOS hose on first for reinstallation anyhow

Think I'll slot it as per Hal's suggestion when I put it all back together.

And that's a fine colour for your ride ZW, like it ;-)
