Default Transmission jumpy at takeoff

Ive noticed that when I start from a stop and especially when starting with a turn or making a 180 degree turn in really slow speed th transmission feels jumpy and with short pulsations back and forth.

It's a 87 951 box with LSD.

I'm going to change the oil next week but don't think that will change much.

Any thoughts?

/Peter

Go in a parking lot and drive in a tight circle. If you have nasty vibrations and wheel hop that go away when you drive in a straight line, you have a problem with your LSD.

Sorry i was not clear!

Do i need to change the tranny or is it repairable? Can I just drive til it dies or can I easily do something to make it live longer?
Do I only change the LSD or more parts?

Changing the fluid may do more than you think. If it's still no good after the fluid change, it's time to upgrade your LSD!

And degrade my wallet ;-)

But does this mean only upgrading the LSD and not touch rest of box? What does this typically cost?

So while we're at it: Which fluid to use?

+1 on the fluid change, it can make a dramatic difference on a lsd that wont unlock.

I demolished an LSD on an E36 M3 diff that way. I raced it really hard one weekend, and it started locking every time I made a sharp turn. I decided I was too busy to fix it, and on a rainy day while making a U-turn, I demolished the entire box and had to call a tow truck...

I'd take care of it sooner than later

Great, will try to do it this weekend. I have autox/slalom on Saturday and would like to have fresh oil in there before that..

So any recommendations on the oil/fluid?

Redline MTL. I've used it for a while now and have had zero problems.

There seems to be a lot of confusion which Redline to use.
Some say MTL which is GL4 is not good for 951 with LSD so that you should use MT-91 GL5.
Then there's 75W90 that some say is correct.

So are there any more around here using Redline and which oil did you use?

Well shoot now you've got me second guessing myself. It was one of those two. Could've sworn it was the MTL though.
