My pulsing/tapping is quite noticeable below 2k rpm, and I've isolated it to where the adjustable fuel pressure regulator attaches to the firewall where the cruise control unit used to be. I guess the fuel lines are so rigid that the pulses are transferred through them.
To reduce the noise heard inside the car, I've mounted the FPR to the firewall using the same rubber isolator stand-offs that are used on the idle air servo. It cut the noise in half, but it's definitely still there.
Edit: My rail is the LR rail that everyone loves to hate. A few dabs of Loctite and check it every 1000 miles when I add oil should do the trick .
