Default Question for those w/ J&S safeguard

I am hopefully going forward with the DTA standalone. I am waiting for a custom harness. The setup does not have any knock control, so I contacted John at J&S for a display. He suggested their vampire unit with my coil set up(coil near cylinder) and suggested the following No stethoscope required to dial it in. Just drive on the street, adjust the sensitivity until it just starts to detect when you accelerate with a moderate load (not wide open throttle).

I was curious if anyone installed and tuned theirselves. I plan to have the car dyno tuned with a decent safty margin, but would like to have the knock control in case of problem in fuel system or bad gas. Also summers here can get pretty hot.

Thanks
Steve

Thanks I apprciate the encouragement. I will order the sensor today to install while I have the intake off.

How does the unit differntiate detonation from road or other engine noise?

Adjusting the sensitivity means plugging earphones to the J&S and turning the sensitivity **** until the J&S reacts exactly when knock can be heard. There are lights on it that will tell you when it reacts.

For whatever reason the unit that is supposed to work with my setup, does not have a ear phone plug in

I am to use the Vampire unit.
