Default Rear wings etc...

Has anyone got some pics from the inside of the first 4 cars how these wings were attached to the car? Obviously there is the other way of going through the rear lexan but this probably restricts the location of the wing too far forwards of the ideal placement.

I am looking at locating the wing at approximately the region showed in my genius attempt at Microsoft Paint, but you get the picture. This would create too much lean angle on the struts if mounted through the lexan. So I'm wondering how or where the ones that join the rear of the car are affixed inside the cabin if anyone has any pics?

Ideally I would like to have mine a bit higher and further rearwards than where it's being held in the reference pic.

very interesting pics... outside of these guys being forced to run these big *** wings....

i'd stay with the 968 Turbo RS wing as not to offend God.

it looks like it's been slotted through, bolted to a bracket that's mounted to the chassis

Well they're not there to win any beauty contest. They perform a function. The 968 wing is more aesthetic but would create less downforce. On a track car aero is king. Not that any of these examples are particularly cutting edge, although I'd suggest that the wing going on the Black car will be more efficient than the others being a more recent design. It's a shame that Scott Gomes disappeared off the scene. Pics 2 & 3 (in #1)were off cars out of his shop and he used to get on these forums from time to time. Search 'Under Pressure Performance'.

Paulyy, yes I'm sure you're right. I'd just like to see what's going on inside if anyone has any pics.

Not to be ignored at all, but the front aero of the car will need to be increased too. While we have a pretty decent splitter now my intention is to increase it forwards and also add some Canards. Because my Wind Tunnel is being updated, much of the aero is speculative on the car. I'm fortunate to have some helpful advice from the designer of the wing so we will have a bit of a play about with 'stuff' and see what we can come up with.

Another thing that I don't seem to think gets covered a lot is the actual aero of the struts themselves. As you can see on the 'Characterful' R34 they have used a pretty strong looking latticed strut, but I'm thinking it actually creates a bit of dirty air. Call this car ugly, but it circulates around the track in about the same time as the Supercar V8s down here...while it's on R spec tyres vs slicks on the V8s. Of course it doesn't have to pay heed to as restrictive rules..but still....

Speaking of aerodynamic uprights, I am a fan of this syle. (These from Element Tuning).

They look pretty good Steve. Sort of what I had in mind. Now we only need to get them to slope backwards about 40o...problem would be that the leading edge would be higher than the trailing one in that situation. Food for thought though.

Better than bloody occy straps!

almost all our classes, dictate the wing cannot stick further out, then oem chassis points, meaning not further behind than rear bumper, wider than widest point of car, and not taller.

Many of our classes are the same Anders, but for now I can 'experiment'.

I have this wing (Crawford Composites) and mount it to my rear cage extensions as shown in the pictures. The wing is 6 ft wide--same as the car with the flares in place.

The plates are 12 ga I think, with the center hole dimpled and TIG welded together with spacers welded on the sides to create the 1/4" space for the wing supports. Essentially the mounts are little boxes with a central through dimple. The aluminum supports were originally of Worldwide design I think, but I obtained them elsewhere. It's very sturdy (the combination of the wing, supports and mount).

Thanks Julian. I assume that your wing will come up through the lexan. Looks a sturdy arrangement and your cage comes back a lot further than mine. I'm just going off the wing designers preference of it being mounted further back than most usually do.

No, the supports come through the body just like the photos in your original post. Keeps the wing below the roof line and within the maximum rear position of PCA rules. The supports look like large "L's."

Ahh, gotcha. Thanks for that Julian. Looks perfect but will need to look at either extending the cage or creating some reinforcements back there. Look forward to seeing more of your build soon.
