Default need help with tyre choices

I need to replace my rear tires, they're finished.

I've got 225/45 R16 Falken FK 452, They're okay pretty grippy, but have weak side walls.

I was thinking either get some good 225/45 r16 tires or go for some 245/45 R16 Toyo Proxes T1R

What do you reckon?

This car is a daily driver, with spirited driving down in the country at times.

WOW... those are some pretty small tires for the power you're putting down!!!!
Well.... there will be trade off in tire performance and life..... the Pirelli P-zreo Nero's are really good tires ( make noise when wagging the tail out) but they dont last long and they suck cold, need some heat to work right, Nitto 555( i think) are really good tires but they last as long as the Pirelli's but work very well cold, but will chunk off big pieces of rubber if you track or "spirted drive" them hard or long....
I was planning on getting the Conitental Extreme Contacts, a friend had them on his car and got good life and the car was a track/ auto x ***** on the weekends....
I had the same tires you do but mine are 215/45/17 in the front and 265/40/17 in the rear.... the front tires are cracking the sidewalls, I burned through a set of back tires already..... I have some Mich Pilots on the rear now that were take offs from a car at work.....not impressed with them either....

Hope this helps....

I think the best yres you can get in OE 225/245 sizes are Bridgestone SO2s. I have the T1Rs you are thinking of and I don't think that much of them - they are "OK". Could be they are nearly 6 years old and the previous owner hardly drove the car. I had T1Rs on an Audi estate and thought they were fine for that car. What I don't like is the soft sidewalls and they just don't seem to be that grippy.

In the UK we are severely limited on 245/45x16 options. Its T1Rs, SO2s, Contisports or R compounds (Toyos and Kumho Rs). For the time being, I am remaining committed to 16s - sure its not a lot of rubber, but you can slide them and you need to bring a little skill and a soft touch to your driving - and I like that.

Thanks mate!
My falkens are cracking in the rear also. not sure how old they are, i assume 3-4 years old.
I don't think i'm making any more then 320-330 rwhp.

I'm running the stock 86 T Phonedials. i'm not really allowed to be driving this car at my age (20) (to powerful) so i'm trying to keep the stock appearance until im 22. So i've got to deal with what i've got.

I've read that the Toyo T1R will last 20,000 miles which seems good. also i've read they're great in all seasons.

unless theres other brands that have 225/45 r16 that are just as good at the T1R in 245... i'll consider.

i'll have a look at what bridgestone do, but i think they're discontinued.

T1R have weak side walls? really? my Falkens seemed a bit flimsy also.

Is there a mega list of all tires in production somewhere?

Dunlop Direzza Star Spec. The bstone Re-10 is also great. They'll both last you 20k, assuming you're not only hitting the track with them.

Oh, and they're cheap too. Another plus.

I got a set of Kumho Ecsta XS. 265/45 16's in the back 225/50 16's on the front on 930 fuchs (8" front 9" rear). Super sticky and nice. Not going to get great wear or work great in the cold, but they're quiet, pretty cheap and work really well. Had to roll the fenders a touch in the back.

I heard great about these Nexen Tires N3000 245/45ZR16 94W BW HWY . The other option would be 245 50 16. There's plenty of options, but would they rub?

Won't the 50's change the speedo reading? and raise the rear of the car?

50's were the stock size.
Another option would be:

i'm a little confused now.
i've got 205/50 r16 at the front and 225/45 r16 rears. so the stock where actually 225/50 r16 in the rear?

yes stock was 225/50. actually the diameter of the 265/45 is closer to stock (225/50) than the 245/45, but I think the Turbo S came stock with 245/45 right? my speedo is right on with 265/45's. stock fronts were 205/55.

Yes, that's correct. But wouldn't the 265-45-16 be to wide, and would rub?
