Default Identify 3.0 crankshaft ?.

Hi, If buying a 3.0 crank on it's own is there an easy way to confirm it is from a S2/968 and not a 2.5 item ?. Thanks.

Probably by part number.

You can see it in this photo, on the front most counterweight:

If you can tell a 9mm difference in stroke when looking at pictures of 944 cranks, then hat's off to you!

4.5mm off centerline... difficult but not impossible...

I was going to list the stroke as well, but wasn't 100% sure I had the numbers correct.

Per the factory work shop manual:
2.5 Crank: 78.9mm stroke (39.45mm throw from crank center line)
3.0 Crank: 88mm stroke (44mm throw from crank center line)

It's not "one" 3.0 crankshaft. The S2 and 968 are different with different part numbers. (015 11 for S2, 015 15 for 968)

Are there any differences between the two 3.0 cranks?
And is there anyone to prefer in comparison?

The 968 crankshaft is ~2.5 kg lighter than the S2's.

Actually its not too hard to tell the difference in pictures if the pictures are from the right angle.
The place to look is the ‘overlap’ between the main journal and the rod journal – on a 3.0 crank there is very little overlap.

1st pic is a 3.0 and the 2nd is a 2.5 – look at the rod to main journal relationship……once you see it you can tell them apart at 20’

Another trade secret from 944 Enhancement!

Thanks for the replies, I passed on the crank I was considering and decided not to go 3.0 yet.
