My kit arrived yesterday. Imagine this if you will....

A large brown envelope about 40 inches by 24 inches and inch thick. If it wasn't for the Pilkington on it I would have been what did I just order? I did wonder if there was some new gasket though.....

Nope just a 5 inch baggie with washers, bolts and glue. They must have run out of mailing envelopes because this would have fit in a normal envelope hahaha

I will get to this at some point.

You have to wonder what kind of Engineer it took to come up with this packaging!!! If this works it will be a miracle! Seriously who on this Earth would put a tiny bag inside this huge box???

Youve obviously never ordered from Amazon before... Amazon is the king of small items in a giant box.

Well, now it just remains to be seen if the "fix" is really a fix after all.

How long did it take for the first design latches to start showing problems? A couple of months of use?

Just out of interest, any theories from people who have had a chance to examine the parts as to why this design is an improvement over the original?

For those wondering, the fix is an aluminum spacer and three Belleville washers to replace a plastic spacer. Be sure to remember the black washer and the two plastic gaskets that are not in the kit. That is the order they go on in the video.

This arrangement is probably tighter and less prone to deform, particularly in the hot sun.

I put mine together, and now I can't get the plastic latches closed with the top on the car without bending them. The instructions say to thread the latches down till snug, perhaps I over did it. I guess I will try loosening them a little, but there is thread lock on them.

Anyone else encounter this?

My top bought in Sept 2013 started out dead silent but started giving off some wind noise after about a month. I checked my posts on this thread.

So I guess the thing to do when you put the kit together is to try the latch while tightening it to make sure it is not too tight for the latch to engage, as the guy does in the video.

I had no trouble getting mine apart; if the thread lock is doing anything I couldn't tell. I just loosened the one tight side a bit.

Impressions in the car, it is pretty darned quiet - a vast improvement. When my top was new I posted that it was dead silent, so I don't know if this is that quiet, but it is totally fine. In my car it helps to bump the rocker switch from the fully closed position.

We'll see over the next few months...

Here is a picture of the new setup, with the latch disengaged. You can see where it is a little deformed.

One of my latches got deformed as well from too much resistance in the stack. Too bad the instructions or video clearly direct you to tighten the cap nut until the whole latch rotates.
So far, so good on having it in the car.

I can't seem to get in contact with pilkinton. I would like to have the fix but live in Holland. Is there a simple solution to fix this? Would it work just to use a metal spacer to replace the faulty plastic part?

You can't just order the kit from Pilkington?

You may be able to guess at the size from the picture I posted. If you need precise dimensions the best way would be for someone to take them off the spacer before they install the kit.
