This is a fairly standard rebuild with rings and bearings. It started with a blown head gasket with some water mixing in the oil which lead us to the rebuild. 175,000 miles on her and leaking from everywhere. Removed the cam tower, with the cam, as one piece. Sent the head out to the machine shop for pressure test, clean, valves job and inspection...three angle valve job, surfaced the deck, set valve stem tip heights, etc..o-ringed the head. Disassembled the cam tower, cleaned and resealed with new gaskets and o-rings where necessary. Installed cylinder head with a new "wide fire" head gasket. Replaced rod bearings, replaced rod bearing nuts, replaced oil pan gasket. Installed new bearings on the balance shafts on both sides, install new seals to the balance shafts and new o-rings on the back of the balance shaft housings. Installed Lindsey racing steam vent kit in the head. Welded oil sump in the oil pan while it was off. Polished crank but did not add scraper.
Installed new escort cup clutch and solid motor mounts to match the solid trans mounts. Trans is a 944S with lsd.
This is mostly a track car running in PCA time trials and DEs.
Additonal upgrades include autothority maf, manual boost control, lexan rear hatch, fiberglass hood, roll bar, race seats and five point harnesses. Suspension is mild with koni sport setup and factory bushings...upgrades to here coming later.
Plan is to run with about 16lbs boost and hope for ~240-250 hp with this setup. The car, prior to the blown headgasket was running very good, winning class for four straight years, and in 11th among all entries the last 4 events...couldn't crack top 10...yet.
