Post Steam From Engine

Tonight, I ran out of gas, and drove the car to a safe spot backfiring and spluttering, I then walked to the gas station to get a couple litres, put it in the car and it started no problems and drove fine, but after a couple minutes steam was pouring from the engine bay.I stopped and it s coming from the drivers side below the exhaust manifold neare the back of the engine than the front I would say where the last pipe of the manifold is - I couldnt see exactly. It smelt awful as well. after a few seconds the steam stopped (after I turned the engine off), I assume because there wasnt enough pressure to force the steam out of the leak/crack.
Anyone any idea where the leak could be , or whether driving when running out of gas is connected ie I might have cracked the engine.

any help/guidance/tips would be appreciated- I just hope I havent cracked the engine.

Probably coolant leaking from one of the hoses near the heater valve and falling on the hot downpipe comming from the turbo.
