Default turbo downpipe bracket bolt?

is it neccessary to have the bolt that goes from the downpipe bracket to the block? mine was stripped off and I made a mess of things trying to extract. not sure what to do now.

anyone? I'd really like to just put my turbo back on and use the car. sure seemed like the downpipe and turbo were solid without the bolt, but I dont know if thats the case under load

Most aftermarket downpipes DON'T have that bracket...

You will be fine without the bolt in there....

When I pulled my motor apart, the bolt was there, but only about 1/2-way in. I was **** and reinstalled it anyway... that thing is a PITA to get in, and I agree... most people that take it out never put it back.

I would not run without it. I worry that a hit to the tailpipe could push the exhaust forward and damage the turbo or the pedestal.

It is not too hard to install from below if you use these jointed ratchet wrenches in combination with the socket holder. Anyone who has a 944 should have a set of these tools. They are invaluable and have made wrenching on the 951 tolerable rather than impossible. I could not do without.

Buy the straight ones, they can be used just as easily on both sides and can get into very tight spaces.

You are worried about a cast iron / stainless steel hot housing, which is bolted to a cast iron center section which is bolted to a cast aluminum (in some cases billet aluminum) pieces will be damaged by a hit to between 2 1/4 and 4 inch pipe section that takes multiple turns making it perpendicular to the axis of the turbo hot housing? and were this hit to happen, that a single bolt securing a cast iron bracket to the engine block would prevent this damage?

Installing the bolt is not a problem. Drilling the old bolt out of the block has become a nightmare. Going to run without just for my sanity
