Never...

If I'm shifting at 7000 rpms, think what would happen if I pushed in the clutch, even for a split second without letting off the gas!

if you want to know the "real performance gains" of the 100 or so extra hp, i suggest you ask for 1/4 mile times instead of 0-60... all that really measures is your ability to launch your car.

Or better yet, 60-100 times.

60-90 I think is best...no need to shift or push the car past 6400rpm...

Perhaps even better is a 3500rpm-6000rpm pull in 3rd gear, so that speedo error is cancelled out??

My car does 60-100 in ~6.2 with a 3-4 shift.

I think my car was 5.1 or so. Not by my doing, mind you - the PO had it at the drag strip and ran a 13.8 1/4 mile the same day. Slow but unless you're willing to make a mess of your drivetrain, I wouldn't recommend trying low 13's to high 12's - which a lightly modified 951 could probably pull if they could launch

from reading all of the above posts...... It seems to me the weak point in performance appears to be the transmission.
If the cars are capable of generating reasonable high amounts of power, why is no one concentrating on solving the weak link..... the transmission. Or is there already a solution???

I would appreciate any inputs and comments on this.

Thanks,
Paul

I don't see how you deduced that the transmission is the weak link to the 951 acceleration.

Stock these cars are capable of some excellent performance numbers. Modified, the numbers match world-class exotic car numbers.

And... the transmission is extremely strong.

So how is the transmission the "weak link"???

Everyone worries about blowing up their tranny... I haven't seen anyone do it in a 951 (yet), but then again, I haven't seen too many people stomping on them. I'd be more worried about the clutch, but if you have a nice one (non-stock), I wouldn't worry at all... after I put my clutch in, it doesn't smoke when I slip it really bad (well, not even 2% of what the stock clutch did)

I power shift. You have to be fast or you do hit the rev limiter. Lost 2 cv's that way. First to second shifts. cv's go before the tranny dose. Car is much quicker with power shifts for sure.

Wow, these are some pretty good times for mostly basically stock cars. I can't imagine what Dfastest's 951 does... wow

I'm in the solid high 3's. That was on a previous motor that I actually blew, along with the clutch...twice. This motor has been babied and has 70 more hp than this motor. So I would love to find out but I'm not. 30-60 nothing will outpull me short of the crazy TT Supras here. I even have more tq than the mighty Carrera GT and I weigh less. Can't wait to see one on the road.

OT, Speaking of TT Supras, I'm on the highway just last night. A Red TT Supra came up next to me at about 55 or 60 mph ( I slowed to see if he was gonna run with me). This guy made me look like a 79 pinto running on two bad cylinders. What a humbling experience. Turns out he has just over 800 rwhp!!!!! He comes on here and taunts the 911 guys. So Dave, if you read this, I'm still in awe. Unbelievable car. Those cast iron blocks can withstand so much boost. If I ever do it again, I'm gonna have David at Powerhaus sleeve my block. He's already been doing the R&D on it for some time and he brought it up to me a while ago. After last night I'm thinking about it. I got my *** kicked.

Just gose to show you. Just when you think your Dfastest there's someone Dfaster. Ever thought of adding a programmable 100 shot to your setup. Gets rid of lag real quick.

I have had a similar rather embarrassing experience with a Honda Accord of all things!!!!

Don't know what he had under the hood but it totally blew my 968 off.

It amasses and frustrates me every time I think about the racing heritage, German precision and technology the Porsche name carries..... then a frickin' Honda makes me eat dust at a red light.

When you look at the cost$$$ to power gain ratio between a 951, for example and one of many Asian cars out there...... no wonder the kids are tuning the Asian gear and not the German cars.

I wish someone (who has a LOT of cash to spend) would do us Porsche boys proud and make a killer 951 that eats Honda's / supra's alive.

I wish that someone was me but the bank balance is not up to it..... plus my wife would kill me!!!!!

Any one have such a car out there??? or thinking of making a car like this.
