On an '89-951S, I suspect that a 17x11" wheel with 315/35-17 tire will fit, provided:

- you have 60-65mm offset
- grind off fender lips at 45-degrees to the rear (0-degrees is 12-o'clock)
- grind off the rest of the rolled-fender lips at 90-degrees directly ahead of the hub
- bend fender outwards 10-15mm directly in front of hub. This is the problem area I mentioned earlier due to the taller-than-stock tire. This is the area of the fender that curves inward towards the rocker panels; the part that has the thick stone-guard material.

To bend this fender area outwards, you can just wedge a 6-ft long 2x4 between the fender and the tire and pry outwards gently. You want to make the fender edge vertical to the ground as opposed to curving inwards. Maximum of 10-15mm outwards prying before the panel takes a wrinkle inwards just ahead of the area you're bending.

I'll see if I can't get some photos...

Steve: I just discovered that the front offset on my 16x7.5 rims is 65. Much bigger difference. The 18x7.5 rims offset is 50.

However, if I interpret Danno's scrub radius scenario correctly, smaller offsets should minimize tramlining? Most likey the smaller section height would dominate the tramlining issue.

Bottom line: I think the car is a lot less fun to drive when the front end it darting all over the place. My wife hates driving it. ! Perhaps there's an upside to this after all. <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" />
