Post looking at a 951 tomorrow

My quest for a fun daily driver now leads to a 951. I briefly had an '87 Carrera which I sold for a variety of reasons. I have a crappy LA commute and would like some more creature comforts. I'm also looking at used M Coupes, but if I can get mosts of the fun, more utility (I could use the back seat for my 5 year old, and the hatch to haul music gear) for less than half the price...

I've read varying accounts of maintenance costs....most seem to say the 951 is more expensive than a 911 (including my local wrench). Taking most variables into account (ie how well maintained), is a 951 going to kill you if you are a checkbook mechanic? The one I'm looking at has 111K miles, but has new clutch, timing belt, water pump, balance shaft, and M30 control arms. Seems like the current owner has put the car right, and I believe the service history is fairly complete. Anything to look for (I've checked the kgross faq)?

Regardless what the previous owner claimed, it's better off to have a pre-sales inspection on the car at your local Porsche dealer/shop. Just make sure the shop is familar with the 944/951, otherwise they might oversee something.

A $120 - $200 pre-sales inspection is well worth to find out thousands of dollars of repairs (eaily on a bad 944/951) after you purchased the car, really.

Just IMHO,

check oil leaks, motor mounts and ball joints. also it's normal for these cars to burn a qt of oil in 400-1200 miles it is only luck if you get a 1200 mi/gt car good luck
