Questions about AVC-R
Can the display unit fit into the space below the radio?
(Pardon me if this is lame), but, with the multitude of AVC-R functions, does a person still need a boost gauge in the car?
Thanks.

Yes Patrick the AVC-R controller fits in the space under the radio. I used black acrilic to make my surround for the unit. The AVC-R has a boost gauge built in allthough it is a different scale, it reads kg/cm2. 1kg/cm2 = 14.2psi

Taz & Sean: Thanks for the photos. Couple more questions. Exactly how wide is the display unit? Or, more specifically, can I squeeze a 2" boost gauge next to it in the space below the radio?

No problem, i just looked at mine and im pretty sure a gauge wouldnt fit. I use an a-pillar pod for my gauges. As far as boost gauge, ive trained myself to recognize kg/cm2. Its not hard and you get use to it after a while.

Well technically I guess you could squeeze it in there but I don't see how you could make a panle for it.

Thanks again guys. I already have the boost gauge, the little bitty VDO one. I made my own panel, and have it in there with with an ARC2 and ARM1 plus a Passport detector mute button.
I don't do A-pillar gauges, so I was trying to find a spot for the boost gauge when I add an AVC-R and do away with all the MAF related stuff.
I may still try it. I'll post it if/when it happens.

how has everyone's experience with the avc-r gone? gear-based boost seems necessary given how hard these cars are to launch (even stock) - how well does this work for everyone?

wow, i guess a gauge will fit. Making the pannel would be a problem because it would be very thin in some areas, But it doesnt mean you shouldnt try it . You could always mount the avcr other places, rage2 mounted his on the dash and i have seen them by the foglight switch. Then you could reserve the space under the radio for your gauges. As far as how i like the avcr, i wouldnt have anything else. the functions are great. more than enough to keep you busy. The different aspects you can monitor, and the peak hold is great. Good to see what your highest boost was and at what rpm it was made. When i get bigger injectors and im able to run higher boost, i will start using the gear based boost funtion. im going to run 16psi in first so there wont be to much wheel spin. and higher boost in the other gears. its great to be able to do this. And on top of all of that, it looks pretty cool

Taz/Tom: Great photo. I now have renewed hope. Given the size of the boost gauge in your picture (I'm guessing 2.75") my gauge is 2.00". The potential is there! Many thanks to you!
