1986 951: Heater used to work but stopped when some vauume lines melted.
Replaced a visibly broken heater valve. Flaps & Clip work. Vacuum thru firewall does not pass activate valve. Applied vacuum directly to valve to keep open but still not heat.
Did gravity "burb" (car up on ramps and opened coolant plug near cylinder #1), but still no heat in the engine compartment.
Ideas? - Mark

You melted your vacuum lines? Yikes!
Sounds like you are on the right track with air lock. I have said this more than once, but a good washboard road does wonders for shaking things out.
These 944s are such bitches, I had a sailboat with a water heater over a foot above the engine head and never had half the problems.

Oh, you are one of those, eh? ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
BTW, it is MV (motor vessel), not motorboat. If it has a big stick and little 40hp diesel, close enough for me to call sail.
But the point is these 944s are a bitch to get the air out. And Porsche does screw up in design.

I get bursts of warm air, but not constant heat so I am still suspect of an air lock(?). Is it expensive to by a tool to pressurize the cooling system and bleed air off thru the escape bolt above #1 cylinder?.
Any good alternatives?
Any ea on cost of tool?....I plan on having the car for a while, maybe I should make another investment?

Mark,
I usually jack up the front of the car, run the engine until warm with the heater on full hot and open the little screw on top of the engine. I'll usually open and close multiple times letting the engine circulate the air around in between. After 10 minutes of this. I'll let it cool, and repeat. I've never had a problem with this method other than antifreeze on top the engine to clean up.
