Red face DEER SUCK!!!!

My beautiful guards red 951 struck a deer on my way to work today!! I am soooooooooooo angry that even screaming out loud didn't help! My intercooler panel is caved, my hood is buckled, right headlight is completely destroyed, right fog light lens is cracked!! Even the Porsche emblem has been stripped off of its rightful place ! The nose has survived due to it's flexibility.........Thank goodness! So unfortunately she is going off the road just a little sooner than normal but I'm OK : Where to get body panels and prices for my next "project" in the spring Any info much appreciated, Thanx to all.

Frank, '87 951, (not so)guards red

Consider this an opportunity for your car to lose weight.
60lbs off for going to a carbon/fiberglass hood...

They have pricing on their website...but its about $600 for the hood + painting.
$600 for a polycarbonate hatch glass for weight savings of 60lbs or so..
Those are the 2 best bang for the buck weight loss things..aside from stripping the car.

did you save the deer? you could lend it to a few of us here on the list...

I really need a paint job myself...

I could see the local sheriff: "Why, this here deer is rigor-mortisized!"
Me: "Yeah, I guess that explains all the scratches..."

It could work, I tell you.

Just be glad you are alive. A fear I have about my 944 is cutting a big animal off at the knees and have it come through the windshield.

I smacked a moose once ... we both tried to get out of each other's way. Didn't work out too well and I'm glad I had a F-350.

Ice, if it makes you feel any better, my NA's windsheild stopped a deer (right in front of my face) at 50 mph (at least, that was the posted speed...).

I know the sweeds do moose crash testing, the put a keg on stilts and then drive into it at 60 mph. But I don't think porshce participated in those test in the 80's. I think Volvo and Saab are the only ones.

I just thought that was random tid bit of knoledge that ya'll couldn't do without.

To make this useful, I too will recomend Gt-racing.

Sad story from my hometown - a woman was driving behind a big truck full of dirt and rocks in her 944. A softball sized rock worked loose, fell off the truck, and went through her windshield, killing her instantly.

I've always worried about those taller deer too- I've seen plenty off to the side on I-40 and I-75 that were plenty tall enough to slide up our sloped hoods. This time of year is especially bad, early in the mornings w/fog, etc...

Sad story about the single rock killing the lady in her 944- I guess when your #'s been called, it doesn't much matter if it's a heard of 6' tall deer or a 2" pebble... That's pretty freaky...
