Unknown item in dashboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all,
Does anybody know what the small round, and slotted vent type cover is in the dashboard, next to the cigar lighter.
My manual says nothing about it, there is a rubber tube behind it, which does not appear to be doing much , or even connected to anything.
Any ideas out there.
robin.

It's used by the air conditioning to measure temperature in the cabin. If you don't have AC, then it does nothing... except covers a screw you need to undo if you want to take that trim panel off

It's a sensor for the ejection seat option. Option Code 951-576-1234. If there's no one in the passenger seat, you'd hate to eject just the seat right - that'd be a waste of a perfectly good seat! The sensor has an annoyingness feature built in that senses how annoying your passenger is and then decides weather or not to eject them. It has only happened a couple of times with my car, but for some reason Porsche attached a parachute to the seat.....
But seriously tough....it's for the AC

Cheers guys,thats another question sorted.
the ejector seat option would be a really nice feature for some of my passangers, would be a much better option in a cabriolet.

Sami: IIRC this item does something, even if you don't have the AC.
the normal ventilation system tries to cool down to the set temperature by varying the air flow.
The temperature measurement behind the grill is the input to this system.
