Unhappy Need new Oilpan

I somehow cracked my oilpan while torqueing it down.

Can a naturally aspirated 944 oilpan be used as a replacement? I have an 86 944 parts car.

If not, where is a good place to get one?

Thats weird... Has this happened to anyone else? DId you know that the torque spec for the bolts is only about 18 ft lbs or something around there? I think a n/a oil pan will fit. I have seen both and they look exactly the same.

Have been there ... The oil pan is aluminum. Just take it to a machine shop and get it repaired. It is a lot less expensive than buying a new or used one.

Or you can track down an updated oil pan with the baffles in it to prevent oil starvation under cornering.

You have to drill the oil return line/fitting if it doesn't already have it. But the later should be the same. And the pan gasket has steel inserts to prevent overtourquing.

Most likely what happened was one of those steel inserts from the previous oil-pan was stuck to the block. This caused the oil-pan to have a high spot where the old insert doubled up on top of the enw one. Then when you cranked down the bolts around this high spot, it cracked the pan.

i put a post up on the main board looking for a pan to baffle about a month or two ago. i know one person had replied that he had one he'd be willing to get rid of (had a chipped cooling blade, other wise was fine). do a search for the post, it was titled "wtb vgc oil pan" (i'd of put a link to it but im running out the door and the search function is slower than my stealth) heheh best of luck
