Tom,
I haven't had time to do a complete analysis on my rotors but I think they are made by Coleman, no relation to me. When I get time I plan to take them into the lab and do some cross section and micro work. I think I'll find some segregation in the cast structure.

Do you know who made your rotors? Can you tell if you have one area on your rotor that looks like a bunch of small-interconnected cracks? On the order of 1/16 to 1/8".

"Why the effort to fit them under 16's? I thought you already had that monster set of 17's from BBS?"

Partly out of the challenge and partly laziness since my street wheels are 16x10" and I don't want to get a second set of 17" wheels. Also someone computed that the same-mass wheels in 17" would result in a higher polar-moment of inertia resulting in a certain X-percentage slower acceleration times.

HEY HAS ANYONE EVER DEALT WITH MICHAEL AT PROSPEED MOTORSPORTS???

He advertized a 'fire sale' on his BigRed brake kits on the email list about a month ago and I picked up a set (without rotors or calipers). So they're the ones for an '86 951 that bolt onto the back side of the hub:

<img src="http://www.gururacing.net/ImagesMisc/Brakes-BigRedInstructions.JPG" alt=" - " />

They're pretty much identical to this Lindsey kit. Notice that there are three sets of holes:

1. larger outer ring of holes to attach to rotor
2. 5 large holes on 5x130 circle presumably so you can replace studs without unbolting the hat.
3. 5 small holes on 5x125 circle to bolt on to hub

Mine doesn't have these last set of holes to bolt onto the hub! In fact, there are two beveled holes for a counters-sunk screw. This leads me to believe that the drilling on this hat/adaptor was done incorrectly and someone thought it just slipped over the wheel studs on the front like the later kits.

So.... my question is:

1. has anyone ever installed one of these BigRed brake kits for an '86 951 on their cars?

2. anyone have had contact with Michael lately? I got 5 emails in 4 days from him when I wanted to buy the kit. Now none of my emails have been answered the past 2 weeks.... hmmm.....

So what kind of brake kit did you buy that has no calipers or rotors? Doesn't sound like much of a kit?

But it should fit under a 16" wheel!
