Post Lost patience for SSI joints.. getting arms from Blaszak.

I ordered the SSI BJs in late December, and still nothing. That's almost 3 months. I was told the Machine shop was holding up Sloan, and that the balljoints weren't even made yet. So I'm not badmouthing SSI.. I'm just sayin'...

If I don't get this done now, my wishbones are gonna fall out from under the car at the worst possible time!

Soooo, I've going back to Markus and I'm ordering some rebuilds from him. They should be here before Friday.

Now, my question is, are there any tricks or snags to look out for when doing this? I've read the online guide.. just wondering if anyone has some extra input before I jack it up and dive under.

Did you order the caster blocks with the arms? The original soft rubber Pcar ones just don't last under stress.

My stock castor blocks have lasted okay so far...

The steel arms no not use your current castor blocks. So all bets are off.

I'm getting rebuilt ALUMINUM arms, not his custom steel arms.

He does offer three different arms.

How much is he charging for the Aluminum arms?

he's charging me 232CDN (158USD) per arm to rebuild my aluminuim arms.

The core deposit is $200 each, but that doesn't matter to me, because I'll get it back.

Twice as expensive as the SSI joints, but 1/2 the work, I guess.

Props to Markus though, he's really patient with all my questions, and responds to emails quick. I hope his product is as good as his service so far.

Rich,

I used Blaszak rebuilts when I did this swap this past summer. Nice units, great service from Markus. I had never done this before, and a buddy of mine who had done them on his N/A "S" came over and helped. It was very straightforward. Hardest part was breaking loose the bolts. Overall it took about 2 hrs.

I second that, my Blaszak rebuilt arms have been working perfectly on my 'according-to-PCA-too-low' turboS. Three years and balljoints are still tight. Given the price, it's a steal.

Hey Rich,
I remember talking to you awhile back about the Sloan kit. I ended up buying a set of bushings from KLA Industries. My brother has a hydraulic press at his work, so it was an extremely easy job to rebuild the control arms. The balljoints were in pristine condition, all you need it the new bushings. Entire job including removal, rebuild, re-install took only about 3 hours. The actual rebuilding part doesn't take long. The kit only cost something like $65US...it sounds like you're gonna be out a lot more than that with the route you're taking...I'd just give KLA a call if I was you.

I have a set of Sloan balljoints still in the packaging. I paid $180 including shipping, but will sell them for $150 including shipping to anywhere in the continental US if anyone is interested.
