Question Slightly OT: VW GTi vs. (almost stock) 951

Just curious if anyone has driven a new, or late model, GTi...I was out this morning for the first time in weeks and some kid wanted to run..I dropped my car into 3rd and firewalled it. While I certainly pulled away from the kid, I was surprised that veedub was a quick as it seemed to be. Of course, he could be chipped and I am not; just curious if anyone has had any experience with these cars...

which VW GTI?

vr6?
1.8T?

Either has good potential, and with the right tuning the 1.8T's can be very quick, or with a blower the vr6's can be down right scary fast....

And even stock, both put up respectable numbers...

I have driven the hell out of both, and they are very close in speed. My mostly stock 951 would slowly walk from my friends '01 GTI 1.8T, but once he chipped it, he could pull from me.

Then I got a turbo and a MAF kit.

The recent vr6 has 200 hp and no turbo lag.

Just chip that baby and you won't have any more problems. :-)

A buddy of mine has a VR6 Jetta with an AEM intake. He hangs with me off the line, thru first and mid second gear. I then begin to pull like a bastard, but, that car is VERY respectable compared to many cars. He runs a high 14 sec 1/4, with some modding, these thing can be quick.
