Post I'm stuck, can you help ID a part?

On my way home from a local hangout (thankfully close) I noticed my heat was blowing cold and my gauge was migrating between the top-middle and bottom-middle bar every 30 seconds.

Thankfully it was just a mile or so, and snowing to top it off. Before going in I snapped a picture of what I found -- a broken black plastic fitting above the main inlet/outlet for the radiator. No wires going to it, what is it?

Here's a pic, driver's side just under the light mechanism. Front of car is to the Left. I pulled the broken plug and attached hose into view, you can see the rad hose below, but the mount for this broken plug is obscured by the light mechanism:

Any ideas on what this part is called? Or how to get the broken remainder out of the radiator receptacle?

Thanks!

It's the radiator to tank hose fitting. They come in two types one for early (83 to 85/1) and a second for all late cars. It's where all the coolant from your car went, I'm surprised you made it home. Good news is that it's a $3.95 part and the broken piece that's still in the radiator usually comes out easily. Stick a screwdriver that'll just fit into the hole in the plastic piece and it usually screws right out.
