I may be wrong here, I am no expert but the rod end has a bearing that goes in it, so it should see no play, with new bearings. I dont know as I would do it unless I spun a bearing, hence giving the the rod with the spun bearing and issue. I have a set of forged porsche rods instead of the cast ones (replaced with pauters) if you want. I am suprised its a 120 dollars, I had the small end enlarged on my pauters ( to small from them) this service was $40 for all 4

Rather than true/false, black & white, all-or-nothing, yes/no statements, look at the numbers instead. They will tell which path is the most appropriate. What was the clearance when you took the motor apart. What was the clerance with new bearings? Undersize bearings?

the only reason to resize the big end would be if it was not round. If it measures correctly then use it as it is. Resizing requires that you grind material from the cap and poss. the rod mating surface, this makes the hole smaller, you them machine the hole back to the correct size.
