Post Noobie question

The hinged, sensored box just past the airfilter. I guess it is the air flow sensor? The gate (I have not looked, assuming it is a thin solid plate, barndoor-like) on it seems a bit restrictive, is it possible to ease the spring?

It just seems that the engine would breathe better if that gate wasnt pressing so hard into the airstream.

Or is it of some value?

If I had a blow back, and it popped my pop-off valve, would that door shutting and blocking the airflow be bad? It seems to be a one-way door.

That's one of the reasons people upgrade to a mass air flow type of sensor or go to a MAP sensor system.
