Post About ready to pull the trigger here...

I have the opportunity to purchase this car for PCA club racing. I know the car is a steal at the asking price (and highway robbery at the price I can get it for). I am curious to hear what you all think of the components used.

The car would run in GT3, I am already familiar with the competition in the GT classes. I know the car is competitive in SCCA as it ran in the Longest Night @ Moroso.

1986 2.5L tubo ~400hp (not sure if that is at the wheels or the flywheel).

New engine- only 2 hours test time. Garrett turbine, TIAL wastegate, Turbonetics blow-off valve, ported o-ringed head, stainless exhaust with race muffler, camber plates, Aluminum Charlie Arms, Spherical Caster blocks, Bilstein coil-overs front and rear, Twin Turbo front and rear "BIG" red brakes, 18x9.5" ATS Motorsport wheels, Full Race DUNLOP rain tires mounted (250 front, 280 rear), All new wheel bearings front and rear, TIG welded cage, window net, Sparco Pro 2000 seat, Sparco steering wheel with quick release hub, TRW 5 point belts, lightened stock dash, Completely gutted inside accept for functioning windows as car is driven on street. Wiper and lights also work and has brand new European driving/fog lights.

I can get an LSD for ~$1500, TEC3 for ~$5000, and a drysump system for ~$5000. All this done by the original builder who I have prior experience with. I do not plan on using the car on the street.

TIA

I dont think it would be competitve in gt3 unless it HAD their wide body fibreglass kit. or a fibre glass kit in general. People in gt3 spend a LOT of money on their cars! Just look at all the work Lindsey racing has done! There is a lot of work yet to be done to that vehicle. It would be a fun project though. Im sure that 400hp is at the crank because i dont think that kind of power is possible @ the wheels ona 2.5. (go for an 80% locking diff)

that car should make for some interesting posts!

Luke,
400 at the wheels is a reality with a 2.5! That is with 110 octane and a CHIP! I'm not selling anything, so I don't have a agenda, but it is a reality. I believe that Lindsey has a chart showing something like that too.

Check out this dyno chart:

That's Rodney Wiggin's 400rwhp on pretty much a stock 2.5l engine. Stock block, pistons, rods, crank, cam, valves, head. Running Scott Gomes's custom turbo with Accel DFI fuel-injection system. Yeah, he does have an upgraded fuel-pump, fuel-lines and injectors. But that's pretty much it. Power was obtained at 25psi. And he's piling NOS on top of that!

With internal engine work like lighter crank, rods, higher-compression pistons along with larger valves, 5-angle valve-job and head-porting I'm sure you can get 400rwhp with less than 20psi boost.
