Cool Fuel Injectors

When fuel injectors are taken out, is it wise to put them back into the spot they once came according to what cylinder?
Thanks,

If it worker before you might as well. Some cylinders (4 maybe?) run leaner then others, and some calibrate injectors per cyliner. But thats the only case that would really matter where they were.

Anyone have any quick tips on changing out the injectors?

I replaced my injectors for the first time just recently. It's a pretty simple procedure.

Remove the bolts that hold down the fuel. If you have cruise control, unbolt the bracket around the cruise control cable on the intake manifold. Remove the plastic shroud around the fuel rail. There are 3 or 4 snaps that hold it in place. It also helps to remove the spark plug rubber hoods because they will get in the way otherwise.

At this point the injectors are being held in by just their rubber seals and metal clips on top near the fuel rail. Gently lift the fuel rail up from one end. You will be prying the injectors loose from their holes in the engine intake. The fuel rail is under pressure with fuel. Some people recommend depressurizing it first, but I didn't. Some fuel will spill out when the first injector comes out, so I just put a rag underneath the rail to soak up the spill. Once you get the first injector loose, the rest will follow as you continue to lift the rail.

The injectors will come out attached to the rail. Once they are all out of the engine, remove the metal clips that hold each injector to the rail and gently pull each injector out of the rail. Finally unplug the electrical plug at each injector.

Installation is the reverse of removal. Remember to lube the seals before installing.

Once everything was installed I found it took quite a bit of cranking to get the fuel rail pressurized again with fuel, so don't be surprised if the engine doesn't fire up right away. It will eventually.

Jake951, what is the resistance on you old injectors? I measured mine with them still in the rail and my old Fluke meter said 0, but that can't be right. I tried to see if they were grounded out in the rail, but the way I checked it, they didn't seem to be. Maybe my Fluke took a puke? Clarks-garage lists them at 4.5 ohms. Thanks, if you get a chance. WOW, that is VERY simple from what I thought it was. I thought it would take at least 30 mins to get them out. Also, when you lub the seals on the injectors for like new ones, what do you use for lub then on the rubber? Just gas or oil...

I just measured mine (the old stock injectors) and my digital meter shows 5 ohms. That sounds right because I recall Danno saying the stock injectors were 5.5 ohms. My meter doesn't read fractions of an ohm. They should not be grounded in the rail as the voltage comes in on two separate pins on the connector.

I forgot one thing. Before you remove the injectors, first remove the vacuum hoses to the fuel pressure regulator and dampener. There's an injector removal and installation procedure described here . I lubed the seals with oil although the article in the link says to use ATF and I've heard others say to use jelly.
