Post Boost vs. Bar vs. PSI? I'm new and dumb..

Hi, I am admitting my ignorance, but I am new to the turbo relm. Could someone please explain this to me. How does it relate to the gauge in my car? How does the PSI relate to boost relate to bar? Thak you for helping a newbie out! Does anyone know the import numbers by color for '89? Thanks for the help. This forum is GREAT!!!!

psi and bar are the units of measure for boost. 14.5 psi = 1 bar

For a nice explanation of measurement of boost pressure, see the feature in the box ("Pass your bar exam...") in the following two pages:

<a href="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Noreaster6.jpg" target="_blank">Page 2</a>

This article is taken from a late 1980's edition of the Nor'easter, the monthly publication of the Northeast Region PCA.

Actually 1 bar is slightly less than 1 atmosphere.

1 bar = 14.5 psi
1 atm = 14.7 psi

In other words, 0 psi boost pressure is very slightly more than 1 bar absolute pressure. Practically speaking, however, you can barely resolve the difference between 1 bar and 1 atm on a typical analog boost gauge.
